Agent versions 3.1 and older are no longer supported
We will be officially ending support for all ngrok agent versions 3.1 and older starting on January 15th, 2024. We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version at your earliest convenience. Free accounts with agents running version 3.1 or older will not be supported. We will continue to allow connections from unsupported agents for paying users, although we will not provide support or patches for those versions.
Free accounts using agents running on 3.1 or older will no longer connect to ngrok
Free users of ngrok will experience service disruption if agents are not upgraded to at least version 3.2 by Jan 15, 2024. As per the ngrok Agent Version Support Policy, this serves as a notice that we will be officially ending support for all ngrok agent versions 3.1 and prior starting on January 15th, 2024.
To avoid outages, please download the latest ngrok agent for your platform and follow the steps to upgrade. If you need help upgrading to the latest ngrok agent from version 2, please see the ngrok agent v2 to v3 upgrade guide.
This only applies to free users of ngrok. We will continue to allow connections from unsupported agents for paying users, although we will not provide support or patches for those versions.
Benefits of upgrading
We are constantly adding new capabilities to the ngrok platform and agent. Upgrading to the newest versions of the agent lets you take advantage of these new features including Edges and modules. In addition, we are constantly working on improving the performance of our agent and network. Sometimes, that requires changes to how our agents communicate with our platform. Using these updated versions ensures that you are getting the best possible performance for your service.
Why deprecate?
Supporting older versions of our agent and their connections drastically increases the load on our development team and reduces our ability to build and innovate. Blocking these legacy agents from connecting to ngrok allows us to focus on new features and capabilities to make the platform more secure and performant for everyone.
What’s next?
Over the next few weeks, we will contact the admins of any ngrok account connecting to the ngrok service with an unsupported ngrok agent version.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to [email protected] using the email associated with your ngrok account.
